About the Owner
Meet Anna: 35 Years of Teaching and a Passion for Mahjong
Mahjong & Music was created by Anna, an elementary school teacher with more than 35 years of experience helping people learn, grow, and feel comfortable trying something new. Teaching has always been a big part of who she is, and she loves creating spaces where people can learn without feeling pressured or intimidated. Her goal is to make Mahjong easy to understand, enjoyable to play, and welcoming for everyone.
For Anna, Mahjong is about more than learning a game. It is a chance to slow down, spend time together, meet new people, and build new friendships around the table. Mahjong & Music was created to bring that feeling to every class, lounge night, and private event through good company, great music, and a shared love of learning something new.
Anna wants every guest to feel like they are walking into a space where they can relax, ask questions, laugh, and enjoy themselves. She especially loves seeing people come in as strangers and leave feeling more connected to the people around them. At the end of the day, her hope is that Mahjong & Music becomes a place people look forward to coming back to.
We keep it to 28 people, so it stays the kind of room where you end up talking to the person next to you.

There is no pressure to be perfect, and the atmosphere is meant to feel comfortable and familiar. It is simply a place to relax, practice, and enjoy being around people who love the game too.
These nights are a great fit if you already know the basics and want more time at the table. You can play at your own pace, meet new people, and keep building your confidence with every round. Private events are a great way to bring people together for something fun, relaxed, and a little different. Whether you are planning a birthday, girls’ night, family gathering, or just want an excuse to get everyone around the table, we make the experience easy from start to finish. We bring the Mahjong setup, guide your group through the game, and help everyone feel comfortable no matter their experience level. All you have to do is invite your people and enjoy the time together.
Every private event is designed around your group so it feels personal, comfortable, and easygoing. We can keep things beginner-friendly, help experienced players get right into the game, or create a mix that works for everyone. With music playing and plenty of room to laugh, learn, and play, the goal is for the night to feel natural and memorable. We’ll take care of the Mahjong side so you can focus on enjoying your event.

Justin Koochof
Justin has been playing mahjong for over a decade and it shows in how he teaches. He's patient with beginners, genuinely excited when the game finally clicks for someone, and happy to explain the same hand three times without making you feel like you're slowing anyone down. Most people leave their first night already planning when they're coming back.
